After recording sessions in the Pythian Temple, the Coral/ Brunswick New York studio, Buddy decided that his future lay in the Big Apple, firstly because he thought that he had made his best records there and secondly he was convinced that his future as a recording artist would be secured if he stayed in the vibrant centre of pop music excellence that New York was becoming. It was also at this time that Buddy's relationship with his manager became strained particularly in terms of the division of earnings that Petty was receiving. Jerry Allison and Joe Mauldin went back home to Lubbock and Petty decided to record them with a new singer. Earl Henry Sinks had a voice that was similar to Buddy's and certainly recorded well in Clovis. Petty had made his mind up that Holly was now lost to him and with Holly now seeking legal advice on how to get what he thought was owing to him the situation was only going to get worse.....
