The Crickets With Buddy Holly and Other Lead Singers
This album is quite unusual because different lead singers front the Crickets to make a varied and interesting musical insight into the group. The selection features mainly Buddy on vocals but also includes contributions by Earl Henry Sinks and Sonny Curtis.
When Buddy passed away in the plane crash he was in dispute with Norman Petty who had already recorded new tracks with J.I.Alison and Joe B. Mauldin with a new lead singer called Earl Sinks. The group also recorded a few tracks in New York with Sonny Curtis as lead singer, the group would never again record at Clovis, New Mexico for Petty. After a brief legal fight Petty gained control of all Buddy's recordings and even excluded the Crickets from overdubbing the backing, preferring to use The Fireballs.
