Hollyville U.K. takes a brief personal look at
Jiles Perry Richardson (Jape) was a complete extrovert on stage and on air, a positive dynamo of talent that exuded energy and vitality. Jiles was born on October 24th 1930 in Sabine Pass, Texas. Whilst attending Lamar State College in Beaumont, Texas he got a job as a Singer/ Disc Jockey and started to call himself "The Big Bopper". My first recollection of The Big Bopper was when I heard "Chantilly Lace" on the radio and of course I immediately went out and purchased a copy of the single.
Because his recordings were so few his record company were unable to keep his posthumous career going like Buddy Holly's record company.

Because The Big Bopper's Star shone so brightly during those mad few moments of fame , his fans remember him with affection and joy.
