THE CRICKETS
Ravin' On From California To Clovis
This 1991 CD features most of the alternate takes that were worth releasing and finishes with a Buddy Holly / Jerry Allison interview conducted by Freeman Hover at the Albany Hotel, Denver, Colorado in 1957. Many of the tracks are so vague that nobody remembers who actually wrote them or indeed who was the lead vocalist on them. John Ingman's wonderfully detailed notes in the CD booklet describe a time in The Crickets career when the personnel of the group was constantly changing. In 1965 the last Liberty session was held at Clovis, New Mexico with George Tomsco and probably Stan Lark of The Fireballs.
Glen D. Hardin became a pianist/arranger for Elvis Presley, while Jerry Allison continued to tour for a time with Larry Welborn, Larry Trider and Doug Walding.
In 1977 Joe B. Mauldin returned to England with Jerry and Sonny Curtis to do a one off show at the Kilburn State Gaumont Theatre in London.
Sonny was eventually replaced by Gordon Payne and later inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 1991.
