Reminiscing
was first released in 1963 to satisfy the demand for more Holly releases,
particularly in the U.K. where interest in Buddy's work was always keen
from the moment he visited these shores in 1958. The original sleeve notes
contained a message to all Buddy's fans which says........
"Can
anyone capture the wind? Has a person ever had a spirit and personality
huge enough and rich enough to encircle this earth? Many may have tried
and failed but we know of one young man who seemed to do these things and
more. He was our son,Buddy Holly.
Since Buddy's physical departure from this world we, as his parents, have
come to know and love all the young folk who write to tell us just how
important Buddy was (and still is) to their lives and their happiness.
They have told us that Buddy was somehow the total of young ideas and young
hearts. Sometimes shy, sometimes quiet, sometimes displaying the candid
innocence of a small boy, sometimes very much all man .... through his
singing Buddy was heard and admired in these and many others by admirers
all over the world. Buddy was young and knew what he wanted from life even
if, like all youngsters, he had his moments of doubting and and wondering
about his role in the game of life.
We certainly miss him and we know that those who continue to enjoy his
recordings miss him too. We find it very refreshing to think about the
wonderful times he enjoyed and shared with us and to recall his happiness
in the world of music.
We have searched through our belongings and his wife Maria has added her
collected memoirs. Coral records have brought along some of their
tapes of Buddy and all these have been placed in the hands of Norman Petty,
the producer who recorded buddy's musical life. Norman was able to contribute
some tapes from his personal library and to all these has been added the
exciting instrumental sounds of a great young musical group called The
Fireballs. We feel that the combination has proved to be a very happy one
and we think Buddy would have been proud of this
REMINISCING album.
We would like to join with all those who have been part of Buddy's career to thank you for your unfading devotion to our son and his music. We hope that you will find many happy hours of listening pleasure in this selection of Buddy's songs.
